In 2027, Pope Leo XIV is inviting young people from across the globe to the vibrant heart of East Asia, and we want you there with us! World Youth Day (WYD) Seoul promises to be an unforgettable fusion of deep spiritual tradition and modern Korean culture.
We are currently gauging the interest of Maltese young people for this pilgrimage. This page will help you understand the estimated costs and the different ways you can participate.
Step 1 – Choose Your Experience
The first step is deciding how much of this journey you wish to experience. There are three main options:
1. World Youth Day Week (August 3–8, 2027)
The core event in Seoul includes the Opening Ceremony, Catechesis, Youth Festival, and the overnight Vigil and Final Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV.
Estimated Cost: The official WYD “Package A” (which includes simple accommodation, meals, insurance, and the pilgrim kit) is expected to be approximately €300. Cheaper packages are available if you choose to source your own food or lodging.

2. Days in the Diocese (July 28 – August 2, 2027)
Spend the week leading up to WYD living in a local Korean parish. This is a unique chance to live with local families and engage in a pastoral and cultural exchange.
Estimated Cost: Details on costs for this are not yet available, but traditionally these are low-cost or hosted by the local community.
3. Post-WYD Tour (with YTC / Missio Malta)
We have teamed up with YTC to offer a small, organized tour to see more of South Korea in a calmer environment after the main event.
Estimated Cost: We are targeting a price of €500–€800 (covering B&B accommodation and tours). We suggest budgeting an additional €200 for other daily meals.
Travel & Logistics
- Flights: Currently, flights to South Korea are estimated between €850–€1000. While it is early for final pricing, we suggest pilgrims prepare for this range.
- Transport: Please note that transport to/from the airport is not included. However, once you collect your Pilgrim Kit in Seoul, your public transport within the city for the week is typically covered by your WYD package.
Other Costs to Factor In
- Insurance: We highly recommend a local travel insurance policy tailored to your needs.
- K-ETA (Travel Authorization): Required for entry into South Korea. This is a simple online process and generally costs €7–€8.
- Vaccinations: Please consult your GP or the Primary Health Care Immunisation Unit.
- Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel. If you need a renewal, check Identita.gov.mt for current fees.
Estimated Cost for Malta Pilgrims
Option A
(WYD Week Only)
The core event in Seoul, taking place from August 3–8, 2027.
Estimated Cost: €1,200 – €1,350 (Includes flights and the full pilgrim package).
Option B
(Days in the Diocese + WYD)
Arrive early on July 28 to live with a local Korean parish for cultural exchange before the main WYD week (August 3–8)
Estimated Cost: €1,350 – €1,500 (Final costs for the Diocese week are still being finalized).
Option C
(WYD + Post-WYD Tour)
Participate in the WYD week (August 3–8), followed by an exclusive tour organized by YTC (Missio Malta).
Estimated Cost: €1,900 – €2,350 (Includes flights, WYD package, tour fees, and extra meals).

Final pricing is dependent on external factors beyond our control (such as WYD Vatican/Seoul committee updates and global & local travel costs).
